Natalie Smith and Tony Walters to be joint interim Deputy Heads of King’s College

King’s College has appointed two highly experienced university college deputy heads, Natalie Smith and Tony Walters, as joint interim Deputy Heads of College following the appointment of Andrew Eunson as Head of Cromwell College.

The Deputy Head of King’s College works closely with students and student leaders, as well as staff colleagues, to ensure the best possible all-round experience for Collegians.

Natalie Smith served as Dean of College and then Vice-Principal of The Women’s College at the University of Sydney from 2016 to 2021.

Her husband, Tony Walters, served as Dean of Students and then as Vice-Rector of St John’s College at the University of Sydney from 2017 to 2020.

Both Tony and Natalie bring extensive experience in education and educational leadership. Most recently, Natalie Smith served as Principal of Montessori International College from 2023 to 2024.

Amongst their several other qualifications, both have Master’s degrees in education or educational administration. Tony has taught extensively at tertiary level, and Natalie has also completed the Executive Leadership Programme at the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School.

Natalie and Tony will jointly undertake the role of Deputy Head of College, living on campus, and commencing at King’s on Monday 8 June. Their start date will allow a two-week handover with Andrew before he takes up his new role at Cromwell College.

Natalie and Tony will serve in the interim role for the next several months while King’s College undertakes a search and selection process for a permanent Deputy Head of College, with the long-term appointment expected to commence later in 2026.
