King’s College mourns the passing of Malcolm Whyte AO
The King’s College community mourns the passing of our oldest Old Collegian, Emeritus Professor Malcolm Whyte AO.
Malcolm Whyte (King’s 1938–1942, 1944), who served as the King’s College Student Club President in 1942, embodied the enduring spirit of an Old Collegian.
A distinguished graduate in medicine, he was awarded the University Medal in 1944 and later became King’s College’s second Rhodes Scholar in 1947. He built an exceptional career in academia and medical research, recognised with appointment as an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1991.
For many years the College’s oldest Old Collegian and Fellow (and also the oldest living Rhodes Scholar around the world), Malcolm remained a valued and active member of the King’s community until his death. In 2025, members of the King’s community had the privilege of visiting Malcolm, during which he shared stories and highlights from his remarkable life.
