King’s deep commitment to the prevention of all gender-based violence and sexual harm, and to responding appropriately.

King’s College is profoundly committed to doing all it can to prevent all forms of gender-based violence and sexual harm, and to responding appropriately, compassionately, and effectively when they occur. There is no place for gender-based violence or sexual harm anywhere any time.

We will work always to uphold the values of the College, which include safety, respect, and dignity for all. We are also committed to providing a learning, living, and working environment that is inclusive, respectful, and free from harm. This commitment forms part of our duty of care to students, staff, and visitors.

In accordance with the National Higher Education Code to Prevent and Respond to Gender-based Violence, and in close cooperation with The University of Queensland, we have adopted a Whole-of-Organisation Plan to Prevent and Respond to Gender-based Violence together with a dedicated Gender-based Violence Policy. These policies are below.

In also fulfilling our obligation as an employer, we have adopted a “Prevention Plan” on “Managing the risk of sexual harassment and sex or gender-based harassment at work” (below).

These documents are reviewed regularly to ensure they reflect best practice and regulatory requirements. Their implementation includes:

• clear statements of our values, expectations, and commitment
• robust and enforceable policies
• training of students and staff
• compassionate, trauma-informed responses to disclosures, and
• firm, fair, and timely action if unacceptable behaviour occurs.
