The Hon Justice Martin Daubney AM (King’s College 1981)

Awarded the 2018 Queen’s Birthday Honours List as a Member (AM)

The Hon Justice Martin Daubney AM was educated at Downlands College and The University of Queensland, graduating with Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws in 1986. He was admitted in 1988 as barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland, commencing practice in Brisbane.

He was elected as President of the King’s College Council in 2009 and retired from that position after 6 years of distinguished service to the College. Justice Daubney was awarded the King’s Jacket for outstanding service to the College. The jacket was presented at the 2015 Commemoration Dinner.

Martin has gone above and beyond what is reasonably expected by someone given his time-consuming position – by his extensive major commitments within the field of education, music and various professional areas within the community, particularly his substantial voluntary work and professional appointments to committees and boards; and delivering addresses for professional and community engagements to promote important understanding, education and debate on laws impacting Australian society. In the law, education and the wider community the Hon Justice Martin Daubney AM in high is held in extremely high regard for his ethical leadership, contributions to the law, contributions to education,  significant positive impact on the wider community whether it be mentoring individuals, creating opportunities to develop young leaders or assisting the disadvantaged with a practical personal contribution.

Emeritus Professor Stuart Pegg AM (King’s College 1951 – 1956)

Awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Alumni Excellence Award

E/Prof Stuart Pegg AM was made a Member of the Order of Australia, Queen’s Birthday Honours in June 1996 for Services to medicine, particularly as Director of the Burns Units of the Royal Brisbane and Royal Children’s hospitals since 1977, and as Vice President of the International Society of Burn injuries since 1990.

Stuart is a pioneer in the treatment of burns injuries and has been recognized nationally and internationally for his outstanding achievements.

E/Prof Stuart Pegg AM graduated MBBS (Hons) University of Queensland in 1956. He did his intern year at the Royal Brisbane Hospital (RBH); then served as Medical Superintendent at Julia Creek, under a State Government Fellowship. He became Surgical Supervisor at the RBH in 1967. As no surgeon was interested in managing burns, he was asked to take over this responsibility: a life- long passion would develop.

Stuart was a staunch advocate for women to enter surgical training. He provided continuing support and mentorship to them in their training and would ensure they competed equally with their male counterparts for both registrar and consultant posts. In his advocacy for female surgeons, he was one of the pioneers.  He was unstinting in his support for rural and regional Queensland and beyond. He was a passionate advocate for the nurses who worked in the burn units and the extraordinary levels of care they provided. Allied health services such as physiotherapy, social work, speech therapy; rehabilitation services; pain clinics; intensive care were all vital components in the care of a burnt patient.

Now retired but still taking a keen interest in surgical affairs his legacy is a state of the art burns facility where outcomes from treatment are world class.

Mr Cameron Bellamy (King’s College 2006)

Awarded the Distinguished Young Alumni Award

In September 2011 Cameron founded The Ubunye Challenge. The Challenge aims to raise money to support and enable communities in some of the poorest and most underdeveloped rural areas of South Africa and Zimbabwe. His extraordinary gift to so many people in need continues today and shows no sign of abating.

Cameron is becoming one of the world’s great endurance athletes.  On top of completing the first-ever trans-Indian-Ocean row, he has completed the 6th of the Oceans 7 swims (the swimming equivalent of climbing the seven highest mountains in the world). When he completes the 7th swim at the end of 2018, he will become only the seventh human to have ever done so.
