Rugby 7s Programme

King’s 7s teams compete competitively in 7s tournaments across Australia. King’s Sevens looks to provide a pathway for current and former King’s College students to develop their rugby sevens skills further through high quality training and having exposure to competing on the domestic and international sevens circuit.

The King’s 7s Programme was founded in 2013.

Kings Sevens is in their 4th year of competing in various tournaments across South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales. King’s Sevens have two teams and enters at least one of the two in at least four tournaments each year. After winning the prestigious Noosa International 7s tournament in 2014, we have been recognized as a cohesive, ambitious and exciting team to watch and are expected to reach the semi-final round in most tournaments. As a Brisbane based Residential College, we do exceptionally well in competing against international sevens clubs and development teams from countries such as Fiji, New Zealand and Germany. Following the team’s success in 2013 at the Noosa International Sevens tournament, we received an invitation to play at the Auckland Sevens.  This invitation was extended again following the win in 2014.

Strategic Plan: The King’s 7s programme is officially recognised in the King’s College Strategic Plan 2014-2017.

As each year has passed, King’s Sevens have grown in numbers, size and presence on the 7s circuit in Queensland. The King’s Sevens programme has nurtured players such as Jack Cornelson, Tom Pincus and Jack Curtin who have been selected to represent the Australian development team. King’s Sevens remain undefeated against our ‘Big Brothers’ University of Queensland 7s team and we look to maintain this dominance in future years.
